| Guide to using the Wiki The Wiki is a great tool. Here is a guide to help you figure out how to use all of its amazing features. Each section has the basic information, links, and examples where needed. Many of these guides can also be found on the wiki itself. Please read the entire guide if you are lost and confused. Starting a New Page There are several ways you can start a new page: Option 1: You can search for the page you want to make. If it exists, then you will be taken to that page. If it does not exist, however, you will have an option to "Create this page". Clicking that link takes you to a screen where you can edit your new page. Option 2: You can also follow a gray page link, indicating that the page the link is to does not exist. This will also take you to a screen where you can edit the page. Option 3: You can view a list of all uncreated pages that have links to them at Wanted Pages. This is a page filled with gray links to wanted pages, any of which you can click to create that page. IMPORTANT: Before creating a page, please make sure that page does not already exist under a different name. For example, the page "Air Runes" may not exist, but the page "Air Rune" might. Also, it makes the Wiki a lot nicer if you make sure the names of pages you create are the same as the Runescape name. For example, if you make a page called "Addy", then someone is going to be confused when they search for "Adamantite" and get no results. Please be sure to capitalize page names, just like they are in Runescape. Editing a Page There are several features of editing pages. I'll start with the basics. Sections: You can divide a page into smaller sections by using the following code: ==Main Section== This is the largest possible section. To make it, just type "==" on both sides of the name. ===Sub-Section=== Smaller text, within a main section. Put "===" on both sides of the name. ====Sub-Sub-Section=== Same thing, even more so. Just put "====" on both sides of the name. For a good example of sections and subsections, please look at Black Knight's Fortress. Signing your name: If you are proud of an article you wrote, please sign your name! To sign just your name, type "~~~". That's the funny sign above the Esc key, 3 of them. It's called a "tilde". To sign your name, time, and date, type four tildes: "~~~~". To sign just the time and date, use 5 tildes: "~~~~~". All those funny buttons: Above the editing workspace you will see several buttons. The only way you can really figure out these buttons is by using them a lot. The images on the buttons usually represent what the button does. For example, the button with the picture of a picture inserts the code for adding an image to your page. Some of the buttons add code to your page, some help you modify your page in other ways. Once you edit a few pages, you'll get the hang of it. Redirects: These should be used if one page is named incorrectly, and you want any visitors to that page to instead be redirected to another page. To insert one, click the button that says "#R". Then replace "Page Name" in the code that button automatically inserts with whatever page you want to redirect to. Categorizing a Page: If you put the page in an appropriate Category, it makes it easier for other users to find the page. For example, a Quest Page should be categorized under "Quests", so that people who look at "Quests" will also see a link to that quest page. To categorize a page, please use the code: [[Category: Example Category]] And replace "Example Category" with the name of the category you wish to put it under. You can also multi-categorize pages, for example, Clan Chat is categorized under both "Guides" and "Clans". The code I used to do that is simply: [[Category: Clans]] [[Category: Guides]] This code can go anywhere in the page, preferrably at the end. This brings us into our next topic of Categories. Categories Categories allow a user to view all pages with a similar topic, such as Equipment. This, for example, is a list of all Runescape Equipment. Categorizing a Page: Please see the section above about this. Creating a new Category: What if you want to have a category of User Pages? Easy! To create any category, just search for "Category: name of category", replacing "name of category" with the name of the category you want to create. Then, just edit that page like any other page. You can now add articles to that category. Another way to do this is to categorize a page under a non-existent category, then click the gray link at the bottom of that page to create that category. IMPORTANT: Although you can add text to categories, all you should add is general information about the types of pages in that category. You should NOT go into detail about any single topic within the Category page. Images Your pages look much better if you add some images to help explain what you are talking about. There are 6 easy steps to add an image to your page. 1. Click "Upload File" on the left side of the main page. 2. You must have the image stored on your computer. Click the "Browse" button, and find the location of the image on your computer. 3. By default, the "Destination Filename" is the same as the original image name. However, you can change that by typing a new name in that field. 4. By default, the description field is blank. However, you can add a description to let other users know what that image is of. 5. Click "Upload File". 6. To use the image in a page, use the code [[Image: Example.png]], and replace "Example.png" with whatever the Destination Filename of your image was. You can also click the image button, and it just adds the code "[[Image: Example.png]] to your page, and you have to replace the "Example.png", just like before. Well, that's the guide for now. If you see any mistake, typo, feel that another section should be added, need something clarified, or just have a general question, please post here. However, I reserve the right to delete your post after I have fixed the guide.
