Rule 5

Rule 5 - Jagex Staff Impersonation

You should not attempt to impersonate Jagex staff in any way, for any reason.

Jagex staff have a gold crown next to their name when speaking in-game. Anyone who does not have a gold crown next to their name is not Jagex staff. This applies to both private chat and general in game chat.

Why do we have this rule?

We have this rule in place so our players can identify members of Jagex staff and to ensure that players can trust members of our staff for help and support with any game related problems they may have.

Someone claiming to work for Jagex has asked me for my account details. Should I give it to them?

There are three ways to recognise Jagex staff:
  1. Jagex staff characters always have gold crowns next to their names.
  2. Jagex staff will never ask for a password.
  3. Jagex staff will never contact you about your account in game.
We have no 'undercover' staff, we have no need for your password to check your account, and we only communicate with players about account issues via their message centre.

If you ever see anyone attempting to impersonate a Jagex Staff member or any other player then we would ask you to use the 'Report Abuse' button located at the bottom of the screen, and follow the on screen prompts so that we can take the appropriate actions against their account.

Rule 4

Rule 4 - Cheating/Bug Abuse

You must not use or attempt to use any cheats or errors which you find in our software. Any exploits which you find must be immediately reported to Jagex through Customer Support.
Why do we have this rule?

We have put a lot of effort into balancing our games to make them as fair and fun as possible.

Unintended bugs can spoil the effect of a game, so we obviously want to fix them as quickly as possible. Deliberately taking advantage of a bug can unbalance the game or devalue other players' efforts, so it is against the rules.

What if I find a bug by accident? I don't want to get banned for accidentally discovering a bug!

As long as you report the bug to us straight away, don't tell anyone else until we fix it, and don't use the bug any more, then you WON'T get in trouble. Indeed, we will be very grateful. If you don't tell us, or deliberately use it again and again, then you would be breaking the rule.

How do I report a bug?

You can report a bug by going to the relevant game’s homepage and clicking on ”Report a bug/fault” in the relevant section.

When filling out the Bug Report form please make sure you include as much detail as possible. This will help us find the bug and fix it as soon as possible. After the form has been filled out it will be sent to a member of Jagex staff to investigate. Please note that Jagex do not give rewards to players that report bugs.

Rule 3

Rule 3 - Password Scamming

Asking/trying to persuade another player to give you their password for any reason is against the rules and will not be tolerated.

Why do we have this rule?

This rule is in place to protect our players' accounts. Even if you genuinely only wanted to 'borrow' their account we obviously can't tell the difference between this and a malicious person stealing accounts. So asking other players for their password will be treated VERY seriously.

Rule 2

Rule 2 - Item Scamming

You must not scam or deceive other players. And lying to other players for your own personal gain is not in the spirit of fair play.

Why do we have this rule?

We have this rule to help protect new players, and to help prevent our games being spoilt for others. If you don't understand why we have this rule then try to imagine how you would feel if you had spent hours achieving something and somebody else had then tricked you out of it. We want our games to be fun, and being scammed is anything but fun.

What does 'scam' mean?

To 'scam' means to cheat another player during a trade. Lying to other players for your own personal gain is not in the spirit of our games and will not be tolerated.

Rule 1

Rule 1 - Offensive Language

You must not use any language that could be considered offensive, racist, obscene or otherwise inappropriate. This includes swearing.

If you suffer serious abuse such as receiving racist remarks, harassment or obscene and vulgar language, please report them to us using the in-game Report Abuse button which can be found in the chat interface of all our multiplayer games.

Why do we have this rule?

We have this rule to maintain a pleasant environment in our games. For many people it's not much fun playing if there is someone else being rude or offensive, so please consider others when chatting. Also please remember that not everyone playing is the same age or from the same background, so may be more offended or upset than you expect.

What do you mean by offensive or inappropriate language?

This includes (but is not limited to): discussion of recreational drugs, sexually explicit language, solicitation, racism or other prejudice, threatening, blackmail and swearing. It's simply a matter of common sense - try not to say anything that someone might find offensive.

I was called a 'noob'. Is this offensive? Should I report this player?

Calling other players a 'noob' is quite common in most online games.

It's not something to worry about as it means 'new player'. Every player has to be a 'noob' at some point.
The best thing to do is to ignore it.
