| Its quite difficult to make profit from mage. Sure you can get free runes at Fist of guthix, but the xp comes a bit slower. Fast xp comes from shooting off deaths at something outside of the minigame, as suggested by Unit Eight, but you'll lose a lot of money from that (unless you get really lucky with rune drops). For that reason, since you wanted something fairly cheap, I recommend using the best spell you can: SUPERHEAT. Heres a method that gives fairly decent xp and doesn't lose a great deal of money. First off, you need a fire staff, thats a one time purchase and it lasts forever, then head over to the grand exchange and grab the following: BUY: Mithril ore: 180gp 4x Coal: 760gp (190ea) Nature rune: 245gp TOTAL COST: 1185gp Note: you need 50 smithing to superheat the mithril bars. Re-sell bars and buy more of the raw stuff, continue this process as much as you like. (Prices taken from the grand exchange database at time of posting.) SELL: Mithril bar: 1118gp LOSS of 67gp. Is it worth it? In my opinion yes, because it's a decent way for f2p. Although you lose money you gain xp in not only magic but also smithing. Each time you superheat you will receive 53 magic xp and 30 smithing xp (that is the xp for mithril bars, superheating other bars will grant their respective smithing xp). So, for every 1000 casts of superheat you get 53k magic xp, 30k smithing xp and lose 67k... To put the money loss in perspective: each cast of fire blast costs 384gp and yields 50.5xp (thats base xp, you also get additional xp to magic & hp depending on damage dealt). The question is what can you mage constantly that drops that amount of money (or more) at a time. Lesser demons most common drop is 120gp, and although they sometimes drop items worth more, their average drop rarely exceeds 300gp (like I said, unless you get lucky with a couple of rune drops), so its a much bigger loss per xp gained. This method can also be applied at 70 smithing, where you can make a small profit (or at least break even) when superheating adamantite bars. To receive greater profit, don't buy either the coal or the mith/addy ore (or both). An example would be to take a fire staff, rune pickaxe, nature runes & head to Crandor. Mine the mithril rocks first, then mine coal and superheat to mithril bars. In time you spend mining coal and superheating, mithril rocks respawn so theres not a lot of standing around.

| 1. FoG, it can be quite slow though... 2. EB's way, u dont lose 2 much money... 3. Telegrabbing nays in wild, lose 67 for every grab, and renevants... 4. Telegrabbing zammy wines, dont earn about 500gp per grap and same xp as method 4, but gets boring if ur not a patient person... 5. Since u cant use high alch yet, this method is proved fastest way for f2p to lvl up other than high alching, it's crumbling undead, get the runes, go to varrock sewer, and attack the skeletons accross the stream, yes u have to click continuosly, but it's best xp and it doesn't get boring since u have to keep clicking... 6. After u get 55 mage, than high alch rune med helm or green d'hide body, u make profit and best mage xp for f2p... |

| Calebyung got most of it, there's also another way you can do. Cursing the Zamorak Mage in varrock palace. It's about 30gp per cast if you have a water/earth staff. It's pretty clicking heavy tho..... |

How is that a lot of money:S Never mind, anyways but also doing Fire Strike or air just so it's less cash will do good too. I don't think you can superheat Iron not sure. Never tried superheat, Always used the Zammy things for merching capital back then lawl. |

| It can be superheated, and there is a 100% success rate (unlike the furnace which has 50% success). If your going to superheat iron I would recommend mining your own iron to save money, its fast to mine. Also, if you cast superheat on iron with coal in your inventory it will make a steel bar not iron (only if you have 30+ smithing).
