Prayer is a good skill to have as it can do many things, for example, it can save one extra item in your inventory when you die.
Prayer is related to holiness from the god Saradomnin some people may worship Zamorak.
Many people will raise there prayer levels to 43 as this gives them access to the thre protect from prayers. These are 100% useful against random events and 50% useful from other npcs and other players.
[edit] Raising your Prayer Level
The best and pretty much only way to raise your prayer level is to bury bones. Normal bones give you 4 exp per bone buried. Bones are dropped by just about every monster in RuneScape except ghosts,scorpions and spiders. Big Bones are a good way to raise prayer as they give 14.5 exp per bone buried. If you want MASSIVE prayer exp and are a member, then take 14 buckets, 28 pots, and a lot of bones to Port Phasmatys. Take you pots and go to the ectofuntus. Descend the stairs and keep going down until you see a lake of green slime. Fill your pots with the ectoplasm. Then go and bank your pots of ectoplasm. Then take out your buckets and 14 bones. Go back to the ectofuntus but go upstairs this time. Put a bone in the tray thing, pul the lever to grind the bones, and fill a bucket with the bonemeal. Repeat until you have no more bones. Then go back to the bank, take out 14 pots or ectoplasm and go back to the ectofuntus. This time, just click on the ectofuntus itself. You will begin worshipping it. Each time you worship it uses 1 bucket of bonemeal and 1 pot of ectoplasm. The reason you bring 18 pots is so next time you just need to grind your bones and then the time after that refill all you pots. This gives MASSIVE prayer exp, about 4x the normal exp given by the bone being used. If you do this with dragon bones, you can get close to 400prayer exp per dragon bone used.
For non-members, taking a trip to the wilderness can greatly help your prayer. I suggest a combat of 30 or more and a mage level of 25 or more to raise your prayer this way. Open a runescape map and find the "Bone Yard" in level 23-27 wilderness. You'll see many big bones and regular bones, great for burying. One problem is that skeletons guard them, so by killing them or just running by them, you can have no problem collecting. Unfortunatley, the boneyard has been taken out of Runescape, so for nonmembers, there really is only one good option.
You can visit level 13 wilderness (The chaos Alter) and burying the 13 bones surrounding the alter. Also having 25 mage or higher can help you in chaos temple(alter) because you can teleport if you get attacked by a higher level. I would suggest the bone yard for maximum prayer experience,if it were still there, but if you want to be SAFER in the wilderness, use the chaos Alter.
For training prayer you should train on anything that drops normal bones if your prayer level is between 1-30. You should train on anything that drops big bones from 30-40. i would recommend combat combat 50+ for giants and 75+ for ogres (members). From level 40+ i would suggest dragons (members) with 65+ combat for baby dragons and 80+ for normal dragons. You need the anti-dragon shield against dragons other wise you are going to die quickly.
Another good way is to complete the Restless Ghost mission (nonmembers) and also the Holy Grail mission if you are a member.
A GREAT way to get your prayer level to around 30 is to go to the cow field near lumbridge on a busy non member world and just wait untill bones appear and take them all and bury them, its quick AND cheap.
[edit] How do you find your prayer level?
- Go to the skills tab noted by a graph while playing the game.
- Go down to the picture of a white star in the first column on the fifth row.
- Your level will be ?/? with the question marks replaced by numbers.

The first number in the sequence is what your level is at at the moment. It can be drained by special attacks. It can be increased by praying at the prayer guild, which adds two to your prayer. It can be restored by drinking a potion such as a prayer potion or a super stat restore potion. The second number is what you have trained the skill to be and is the number that the skill would be without praying n the prayer guild.
