[edit] Runescape Mining Skill
Mining in runescape is a skill that takes time and effort to do, mostly because mining sites are a relatively long distance away from banks. However, with your time you will also gain levels and earn good money
[edit] Reason for Mining
There are many reasons for one to mine. You can use your mining skill to earn money, or to earn better smithing levels, or even both, because the higher your smithing and mining are, the more money you can make. Also you can mine Rune Essence which is use for the Runecrafting skill.
[edit] How do you find your mining level?
- Go to the skills tab noted by a graph while playing the game.
- Go down to the picture of a pickaxe in the third column on the first row.
- Your level will be ?/? with the question marks replaced by numbers.
[edit] What is this: ?/?
The first number in the sequence is what your level is at at the moment. It can be increased by drinking a potion such as a Dwarven Stout, which raises your mining and smithing level by one, temporarily. The second number is what you have trained the skill to be and is the number that the skill would be without any potions.
[edit] Mining Pickaxes
Pickaxes are the things used for mining. If you can wield your pickaxe so you can fit more ore into your inventory. the better the pickaxe the faster you mine. The pickaxe levels go up like the attack ones but with a 1 at the end from bronze to rune. there is a mining store in the dwarven mines(you can buy any axe that you want to)with a gold pickaxe sign and it is not the north pickaxe sign but the south one west to the general store down there and west of the anvils(make sure to keep the cliff to your north. Pickaxes can be repaired here by using the broken pickaxe with the dwarf in blue. He will then say he can repair it for a price, pay the price and he will fix it.
| Pickaxes | Mining level | Price (shop) |
|---|---|---|
| Bronze | | |
| Iron | | |
| Steel | | |
| Mithril | | |
| Adamant | | |
| Rune | | |
| Dragon | |
dragon- there is some discussion about this on the runscape offical forums a lot of people have suggested it and since the dragon woodcutting axe
came out the chance of a dragon pickaxe coming out is highly likely.
[edit] Mining Random Events
There are 3 mining random events. The first one is Your pickaxe head flies off, just go and collect it and use it with the handle and it should be fine this is annoying. the Second one is Gas will start coming out from the rock, stop the mining and either change rock and/or mine it when it finishes smoking. If you mine it too long a spark will come from your pickaxe, there will be an explosion which will take off damage. i don't know how much damage but for me it is about 10 hitpoints though for lower levels i think it takes off less.it also will break your pickaxe. it can be fixed by taking it to the axe shop in lumby and speaking to bob. The Third one is a Rock Golem will appear and attack you. its level will depend on yours and if you look at the section of random events it will tell you what level you will get for your combat. If you hide behind something the Rock golem will throw rocks at you as its range attack. These random events are best ran from unless you have food and/or at the higher end of the level bracket for its level and/or have protect from melee available to you (they are easy with protect from melee) and/or you have a good weapon on you. Normally you won't have these and beating them with a rubbsih weapon (pick) even with protect from melee is hard unless armour is worn. though if you are like me you wear wizard's robes because they are light and you can run further(running all the way to the bank and back).
[edit] How to get quick experience
In Seers Village, if you go the tracks you should reach a mine. This is the coal mine. It will help you gain fast levels. Here's the awesome part: when you have a full inventory of coal, put it in the mine truck. When you want to deposit your coal, go back to Seers and there should be a truck under a shelter, collect the coal from there and take it to the bank. This is a fast and easy way to level up.
If you're a non-member, you can go Karamja, and mine the coal and mithril rocks. This is used if you don't want to keep the ores and just want to level up. If you want to keep the ores, there is a mine in the Lumbridge Swamp with coal and mithril ores, and you can bank at Draynor, just north of the mine. Note: is usualy crowded.
Mining is without a doubt my favorite skill and the best way to get exp by far is this: powermine iron. This means that you mine iron and then drop or trade the ore. It gives lots of experience, really quickly. If you want, you could also just bank your iron ore to sell it or smith it later.
[edit] How to use Mining to make Money
One of the best ways of making money by mining is by mining 1000 clay, which members will buy for 300k of gold! To find a member who will buy the clay, go to the forums on runescape and select crafting. Look for a post that says "Buying Soft Clay." To make the soft clay, just use the clay you mined with water. Another way to use Mining to make money is by mining ores, banking them, then using the smithing skill to make armour. However, this takes a very long time and is very boring.
Another very good way to make money is by mining iron ore and selling it for 100-110 each. I have personally found that the best place to mine iron is the southeast Varrock mine. It has 4 rocks so there is plenty of iron. Just pick a less crowded world and start mining. It is also best to go light on equipment while mining to increase run time and faster mining.
When you get to level 60 mining the money really rolls in. The mining guild is accessable to level 60+ and 59s if they drink dwarfian stout. In this guild there is about 45 coal rocks and 5 mithril rocks. Coal is really good with making money seeing as it sells for 200gp each for members and about 180gp each for non members. preferred to be bought in big batches. This is the main way of making money via mining though there are less popular ways for making money with mining its just harder to sell them. if you want to know why coal is worth so much and is so popular is because all the smithers want the coal because steel needs 2 coal, mithril 4 coal adamant 6 coal and runite 8 coal so getting 100 runite bars would need 800 coal! And the fletchers need it for arrowheads and the runecrafters need it to mine rune essance quickly, mining is one of them and the other two are woodcutting and fishing which will be covered by me in the woodcutting and fishing guides.
Asterisks (*) are members only ores.
