[edit] How to Edit a Page
Ok this is a small guide on how to edit a page and get the most out of what you are typing but you can only edit a unprotected page. This is an example of a good page. The ones there are able to be edited.[Dont edit for no reason at all!]
[edit] Introduction
Most pages on a wiki or wikipedia are able to be edited by click "edit this page" or in some case's "edit". This will bring up a page with a text box and sometimes when you create a new page you will start from blank.
Once edited you can write a small shorthand summary at the bottom where it says summary and then you can save it or you can choose to show your changes or show a preview, if you choose show changes it will come up at the top of the page with what it had written originaly and what it looks like after you changed the writing ,if you choose show preview it shows you a preview of what the page will look like after you have done what is needed.
If you like what was changed and it looks perfect like a piece of art then click the save page button and dont worry if you make a mistake pages can be edited million's on million's of time's and if you dont like it at all and can not remember what was written we have a history so no need to cry over spilt milk.
You can also click on the disscussion tab to see what other comments members have left.
[edit] Minor or major edit
How do we determine what our work is?
A major edit is a edit that has majorly changed the page for example if the whole page structure was changed if a paragraph was added, if you made new page or if this is a new page its a major.
A minor edit is when you or someone has changed spelling mistakes added a link or fixed a few things.
Try and make sure you use the right one when you do things.
[edit] Wiki Markup
Wiki markup is the language that wiki articles are written in. Below are some examples, you could even say wikipedia is a less advanced version of html. The parameters mostly used in a wiki's are [[ and ]].
[edit] Linking
[[skills]] This links to another page on the site. It looks like this:
skills
[skills|skill list] This links to the same page, but the link is given a different name. It looks like this:
skill list
[[randomtexthere]] This is a link that either doesn't exist or is wanted (to be written). The color of the link is gray. You could call this a broken link. It looks like this: randomtexthere
[edit] Blending
Type: [[skills]] or [[skills]]list
Get: skills or skillslist
Notice no break between "skills" and "list". This combines the phrase into one word but still links to the skills page. This is called blending. You can also blend by typing the link, then [[skills]]list.
It will show: http://www.runescapeaddicts.com/Skillsskillslist
[edit] Signing an article
To sign your name and date on a Wikipedia article, type ~~~~, or to sign just your name: ~~~. The ~ is known as a "tilde." Three tildes puts your name, four tildes puts your name and the date and time, and 5 tildes puts just the date and time.
For example: I type ~~~ and get:
Chomama23
I type ~~~~ and get:
Chomama23 18:02, 12 October 2007 (CDT)
I type ~~~~~ and get:
18:02, 12 October 2007 (CDT)
[edit] Inserting pictures
Inserting pictures is as easy as inserting pictures into html you use a basic code:
[[Image:wiki.png]] replacing the wiki.png as what ever your image is.
[edit] Headings
When writing a new subject or going onto a different area of a subject you should put a heading, in order to put a heading type ==what ever your heading is== remember to start your title with a capital letter to make it look better.
[edit] Subheadings
Sub headings use '===' or '=====' they use between 3 to 5 for a sub heading, use subheadings only when needed.
[edit] Fonts
When doing different fonts on certain words or sentences use the ' symbol two for italics on either side of the word or sentence use three for bold text and use five for bold and italics text
''Italicized text''
'''Bold text'''
'''''Italicized & Bold text'''''
You can use <small>small text</small> for captions. small text
and you can use <big>big letters</big> big letters
you can also <s>strike</s> and <u>underline</u>strikeunderline
<!--- This is an example of text that won't normally be visible except in "edit" mode. ---> but those parameters is how you type a comment to the next person to edit it
[edit] Lists
Creating a list can be done two ways: unordered or suborders by using * or ** tag.
For example:
-Unordered
- item 1
- item 2
- item 3
-Sublists
- item 1
- item 2 a sub
- item 3
- item 4 a sub
