[edit] Runescape Fishing Skill

Fishing in Runescape is much like fishing in real life except it's a lot faster. Many people use fishing in Runescape as a means of profit or for experience in cooking.

Fishing is one of the three money making skills. Fishing starts making money at level 40 (slowly) but faster as you get better. Lobsters are in high demand and sell cooked for 200-250gp each. You see the problem with the fishing industry is you sell the fish normally cooked to give you more money so fishing is linked strongly with cooking so you need to be good at both. I do not really fish so i am not really going to say much. The best fish to sell are members especially with the fishing guild because that is considered a really good place to fish. unfortunately there aren't any caging spots for non members which are close to the bank in fact i only know of one and that is the fishing place on Karamja which costs 30gp each way and a long way from the bank. See the cooking guide for some of my tips on cooking.

[edit] Raising Fishing Level

The best way to raise your fishing level is simply to fish the highest thing you can. Up until about level 20, Draynor village is a good spot because you can fish, cut wood, and then burn to cook your fish. This gives you exp in FOUR different skills. Count em FOUR. After level 20, fly fish in Barbarian Village, cook them in the everlasting fires, and then drop or quickly sell the fish, then repeat. You need several hundred feathers for this. After that, fish lobsters at Karamja if f2p or in Catherby for p2p. All fishing should be done in these places after this point unless you are a p2p in which case, after about level 60, I think, fish in the fishing guild. It has EVERYTHING you need.

[edit] How do you find your fishing level?

  1. Go to the skills tab noted by a graph while playing the game.
  2. Go down to the picture of a fish on a line in the third column on the third row.
  3. Your level will be ?/? with the question marks replaced by numbers.

[edit] What is this: ?/?

The first number in the sequence is what your level is at at the moment. It can be increased by drinking a potion such as a fishing potion, which raises the stat three levels. The second number is what you have trained the skill to be and is the number that the skill would be without any potions.

[edit] How to Level in Fishing Fast

if your starting from level 1 fishing, then i suggest getting a net(nonmember way) 1----if your a nonmember, then go to lumbridge and head south to the fishing spot( place with the fishing guidefishing tutor) and you should see lots of small nets respawning on the ground. Pick 1 up and head over to draynor. Stay there and fish till lvl 20.( just store all the shrimps/ anchovies you fished in bank. At lvl 20, u will want to buy about 2k feathers which sells 2gp ea in the fishing store in port sariam. go to barbarian villiage and fish trouts, and store in edgeville bank. keep fishing till your fishing lvl is 40, or keep fishing if you think this is faster gaining xp. At 40, get 1k gp and go fish lobbies in karajma, ( bring only 1k because you might get alk by a random event and loose all your stuff). when full go to bank in draynor and repeat. Keep doing this till your at lvl 99. I suggest if you want fast xp, go fish salmons in barbarian villiage, but now instead of banking, get it to people who are asking for food, not only that, but you are aalso being nice.

I almost forgot about wat to do with the food in ur bank.

here's wat to do... at lvl 40 fishing, start cooking your food, start by cooking your shrmps then your anchovies, and so on, this will get your cooking to lvl 40-45

[edit] Leveling Fishing

Cooking – Fishing Combo Guide

If you do not want to cook your fish which I do recommend to gain experience in both skills, then don't cook them. Just sell the raw fish. Raw fish can go to a hefty price because lots of people want to increase their cooking level.

Option A: For the Rich

Buy fish you can cook. Cook it. When you exceed the fish you are at and go to the next ranks of the fish you can cook, do not immediately jump in. Rather, keep on cooking the cheaper fish until you stop burning a lot. If you burn here a lot, you will burn like no tomorrow at the next rank. Also, try to cook on the range in lumbridge castle. It gives you a higher percentage of not burning and there is a bank 2 flights up. Just keep cooking until your burning almost ceases and move up. Keep doing that. Buy from the fishing stores when you can because they are easier to buy from and usually much cheaper. You can buy from the port sarim shop and then cook in the range above and store in either the falador east bank or draynor bank. Easy. You’ll be extremely high in no time at all.

Option B: For those who are not so rich

Train your fishing in coordination with your cooking. If your already a high fishing level, well good for you. This will just be some more training. Basically, fish and cook every piece of thing that you fish. Simple.

Get yourself a net. Fish shrimp. Cook the shrimp. Do this until level 20. Fishing rises and your cooking rises at a good rate. They should grow about equally. Now, after you are 20, you need to fly fish. Get yourself some feathers and a fly fishing rod and go fly fishing. The most common stop in barbarian village. Banks to both sides, one in lummy, one in fally. Keep on cooking your fish. Your cooking will go up at about equal rate of your fishing. Trust me, it works.

When you are level 50-70 fishing, your cooking should be about the same. Go catch lobbies now at karajma. If you want to have a little fun, bring an ax and a tinderbox. Some trees are cuttable there. People pay stacks of raw fish, if you make them a fire. Do that to get some quick fish to cook. Now, once you are higher, you can choose to get swordfish. Test out if swordfish are fast enough. If so, you can choose to get them.

Option B2:

Fish still, but if you want some variation and a little fun, go kill some things that will give you meat. Maybe have some fun destroying chickens because they give you meat to cook and feathers for fly fishing.

Also, the guild isn’t really too good anyway. It has a bunch of stuff, but it is usually for gormet cooking. That isn’t for leveling, but to look nice. Not even for experience is it too good, considering the time it takes to do that.

For a none member...even if u can fish swordfish now...the fastest way to earn fishing exp is to go fly fishing at east babarian village...then u can bank them at varrock or edgevile bank

NOTE: Sell the fish that you catch or cook and then sell. This allows you to make a hefty profit for other activities.
