[edit] Runescape Firemaking Skill
Firemaking is a skill that is needed for cooking. If you are planning on cooking in the middle of nowhere, you will need firemaking unless you are going to get someone else to make the fire for you. Fire making can be abbreviated to "FM." Obviously, the "F," stands for "Fire," which means the "M," stands for "Making."
There are a few reasons why you would want a high firemaking level. One of these is you need a high firemaking for certain quests. Another reason is that the higher the firemaking the better the shade you can cremate is (you need better pyre logs for better shades. Shades of Mor'ton requires a quest and this has to do with prayer). Firemaking is required for the mini-game, called Blast Furnace.
[edit] How to level up firemaking
First, you need a tinderbox and an axe that you have the level to use. Cut 100 of the highest type of tree you can both cut and make fire, for new members a plain tree, and bank them. Then find a nice open place and withdraw 27 logs. Light them all in a straight line and when you are done repeat the process. For members, Port Phasmatys right outside the bank is a good place for this.
There is another way of lighting fires but you have to learn it from Barbarian Training. This is to learn how to light logs using a bow. Unfortunately there is the problem that you have to be able to burn the next logs up. So for normal logs it requires 15, for oak logs it is 30, for willow logs it is 45, for maple logs it is 60, for yew logs it is 75 and for magic logs it is 90. Add about 15 levels onto the log you want to burn to find out the level you can burn it with a bow. Note: This way isn't recommended for leveling up as it is more of a useful feature so you can use your bow instead of bringing along a tinderbox. This also works with the other logs besides the main ones.
[edit] How do you find your firemaking level?
- Go to the skills tab noted by a graph while playing the game.
- Go down to the picture of a fire in the third column on the fifth row.
- Your level will be ?/? with the question marks replaced by numbers.
[edit] What is this: ?/?
The first number in the sequence is what your level is at at the moment. The second number is what you have trained the skill to be.
[edit] Special Items
For members, after they do a clue scroll, thye might come across firelighters that change the colours of logs and when those logs are lit, the flames will change colour depending on the colour you changed the logs.
