[edit] Runescape Crafting Skill
Crafting is a relatively good skill to know as you can make your own jewelery, pottery, and even your own armour for range. Its quite hard to find the resources if you have under half a million gold pieces though
[edit] How do you find your crafting level?
- Go to the skills tab noted by a graph while playing the game.
- Go down to the picture of a hammer and a chisel making the shape of an 'X' in the second column on the fifth row.
- Your level will be ?/? with the question marks replaced by numbers.
[edit] What is this: ?/?
The first number in the sequence is what your level is at at the moment. The second number is what you have trained the skill to be. There are no crafting i have known but if you know there is add.
[edit] Is it worth learning?
One of the main uses for crafting is jewelery making as people often make their own jewelery and then enchant it to make special items. For example, you can make a Amulet of Magic by crafting a gold amulet with a Sapphire, then enchanting it with magic. When you have done that, you can sell the Amulet of Magic for a profit.
For beginning players crafting may be a good way to make money, a good way to gain non-combat skills, and a way to get helpful items.
A good way to start is to mine clay(Level 1 Mining), use water on it to make soft clay. Take your soft clay to any potters wheel, such as in Barbarian Village and spin it in to any thing you can make at your current Crafting level. To finish, use it on the kiln next to it. Then you can have all the pottery you need to do what you want with it.
Another way to make a small profit and get your skill up is by collecting cowhides. Then go to Al-Kharid and talk to the tanner. Ask him to make soft leather (at the cost of 1 gold each), then go just north to the crafting store to buy a needle and thread. By using the needle with the soft leather, you can make a variety of leather objects depending on your crafting level.
One way to earn a high crafting level is by getting to level 10 Crafting by jewelry or something else, making at 80k or 40k(they are both fine). Then you can teleport or walk to Camelot. when you are there you buy either 1k flax for 80k of 500 flax for 40k. Then you teleport back to Lumbridge and when you're there you spin all of your flax making bowstrings. Teleport back to Camelot and sell your bowstrings 1k flax for 200k 500 flax for 100k. Repeat this prosses until you get a good bit of money.
Also, if you have high enough crafting, 2k, access to lots of gold bars and emeralds, and 27 magic you can make rings of dueling. First, you go and get 100 gold bars. Then, you go to the magic arena(up in the wilderness) withdraw your 2k and buy 100 cosmic runes from the mage arena owner there. After you buy all of them you need to buy 100 uncut emeralds(you can cut for exp(use a chisel on uncut or buy cut) then you make all the rings, enchant them and if you sell in bulk to high level players for 6k ea, you get 600k and you spend about 70k in supplies you will be rich in no time.
[edit] Fast Crafting
First, start off by killing cows in Falador (south of gate) and when you have a full inventory of cowhides, go to bank and store it. When you have a lot, go to Al Kharid then tan it to soft leather, making a variety of range armour. This will slowly gain your crafting level.
When you get to about level 38 crafting you should start doing tiaras. These are the best thing to do until up to level 99 because they are quick, easy (especially in the crafting guild)because there is 6 silver rocks and a tiara respawn upstairs. These give the best exp before you get to gems but they are easy to make and get. they also sell for a bit depending where you sell them. 10 of them = minimum 100gp in a general store and much more for a crafting store but they aren't so close to the bank/furnace.
[edit] Good crafting ways
A fairly good method for crafting exp is too simply mine clay, get it wet, use it on a pottery wheel, and then fire it. This can give fairly decent amounts of exp. It is also recommended that all newcomers to crafting complete the Sheep Shearer quest as this gives a fairly large amount of crafting exp.
Another Good way to level up on crafting and to get good experience is to craft bowstrings. You can pick the flax just south of seers bank and there is a spinning wheel just north west of that in a house upstairs. Either you could pick the flax and sell it for a decent price, which doesn't give any experience to any skill, or you can craft them into bowstrings (level 10 crafting required gives 15 exp). Bowstrings now are selling for 160-180gp ea! So if you have 200 bowstrings which is about 7 runs, you could sell them for 36k at 180gp each! This is a good way to train and make money at the same time. The prices change from time to time so check on runescape for the most up to date prices. Some people say that if you buy the flax in large quantities in the grand exchange and then go to lumbridge to craft them it saves time. To get the most money u should pick your own flax
You can also make money and experience off of amulets. But how do you make amulets? Well, it is very simple. Just go to the general store and buy some shears for a couple coins. Then, if you are in lumbridge, go slightly northwest of the general store till you come to some sheep fenced in. You will find the gate of the east side I think. There is also a post to hope over. When you are over go shear a sheep. Take that wool to a spinning wheel found in the second floor of lumbridge castle. Spin the wool and you will get a ball of wool. Now you will need a cut gem, a bar of gold, runes to enchant it and the appropriate crafting and magic level. Take them to a furnace and use the bar of gold on it. chose which amulet you want to make. then you will have an unstrung amulet. Use the ball of wool on the amulet and then enchant it with your magic skill and you are done!
[edit] Other Useful Skills
Although not required, other skills are useful for crafting. These skills include:
Mining: With a high enough mining level, you can mine your own Silver and Gold Ore to use in your crafting projects. However, you can always just buy gold and silver ore. Note: Good place to mine gold is under Karamja, near the volcano, just have to get past the skeletons (combat lvl 49 is when the stop bothering you)
Smithing: With a high enough smithing level, you can create Gold and Silver Bars from that Ore you just got. You must use a bar in crafting, you cannot just use the ore. However, you can buy these too.
Combat: Anyone can kill Cows, but higher level crafters often find themselves in need of Dragon Hides, which are much stronger than leather armour. You can buy these, but if your combat level is high enough, you can collect them yourself.
Magic: Now that you have that Sapphire Amulet, what do you do with it? Well, you could just wear it to look cool, or, if you had a high enough Magic level, you could enchant it into an Amulet of Magic.
[edit] Crafting Guild
The Crafting Guild is an excellent way to earn crafting levels. You will find a variety of moulds, ores, and other equipment there.
