The Runescape currency is in the form of coins. They are commonly traded for items. Gold is valued because you are able to buy from shops, and other players. The more gold you have, the more you can get.

[edit] Terminology

They are commonly referred to as different things, depending on the quantity they are in. Here are examples:

1-999 gold is usually expressed in GP (gold pieces).

1000-999,000 is uaully expressed in K. K stands for 1,000 from and is derived from the prefix kilo, which means 1,000. 10k=10,000 gp

1,000,000-999,000,000 is usually referred to in mil, or millions. 10mil = 10,000,000GP/10,000 K

1,000,000,000-2,000,000,000 are referred to as bils, or billions. This phrase is rarely ever used because only very few players have money in such vast quantities. 2,147,483,647 is the maximum amount of money able to be held at one time. This is because Runescape is a 32-bit game. The game can not reach 2^32 because the game uses binary to process things (2) and their as 32 bits. Therefore, the encoding allows 2^31-1, 2,147,483,647. All items are able to be stacked up to that limit. If a Runescape 3 came out, and it was a 64-bit game, it could stack up to 2^63-1, or 9,223,372,036,854,775,807. ~My Java Programming class actually helped me for once~

Gold spawns in certain places throughout runescape, but it spawns in usually very low quantities like 3gp.

[edit] Gaining More Gold

When you receive more gold, the stack of gold you have gets bigger at certain intervals. Once you get 1k gold, it looks different from when you have 999gp. The stack of gold gets larger and larger in appearance. You know how much gold you have because the number of gold you have is written on the top of your gold. Once you get 100,000 gold, your gold is referred to as K. This means that if you have between 100,000 and 101,000, the image on your gold will be 100k. Normally, if you examine gold, it will say "Lovely Money", but when you get more than 100k gold, the exact amount of gold will show. This means that if you examine your 100k gold, it could be 100,485. At 10m, your gold becomes referred to as M. If you have between 15,000,000 and 16,000,000, your gold is referred to as 15M, but if you examine your gold, the exact amount is shown.

Buying gold for real life money is strictly against the rules. Anyone who is found doing so will be promptly banned. Most online gold sellers are scammers and will not deliver the gold anyway. Therefore, it is smart to never buy gold or many consequences could arise.
