[edit] Runescape Economy
The economy in Runescape is what some believe to be the most important part of the game. If the economy is out of alignment or if there is too much gold coins it can wreak havoc on the game. On the other hand if the economy is just right, then it makes gameplay much more rewarding.
Runescape's economy loosely mimics real life economy. Players may sell their loot and items to NPC shopkeepers for some quick money. The NPC shopkeeper's will buy your item for about half of its true market value. Players can also trade with one another, this not only involves money but a variety of items too.
Items that are rare are extremely valuable E.G Holiday event items, and are the most expensive commodities in Runescape. Their cost stems from the fact that no more are being produced. Useful items can also be quite costly. Items that sell at low prices tend to be either common or useless.
[edit] A Critical Risk to the Runescape Economy - Gold Sellers
Runescape's economy is being ruined by gold sellers who trying to make a quick buck out in the real world by distributing hacks and macroers so that a player can mine and gather logs without even having to play the game.
This spoils the game and means that honest players have to pay more for items because there is too much gold being pumped into the economy. It can also means that if you are trying to make honest gold out of woodcutting then you will have a hard time doing as the macroers congregate around your valuable trees.
You should report anyone you suspect of macroing. If they are using hacks or macroing your report could just get them banned.
