[edit] Runescape Attack Skill
Runescape attack is one of the most prized skills in Runescape, especially when it is combined with defense and strength the most powerful three skill combinations in Runescape. Attack is based on what weapon you can use and what level you are. It raises the chances you have of hitting. There are many different ways to level. Attack is one of the four skills that help with actual melee attacks. The other three are defense, hitpoints, and strength. Attack is basically your accuracy or your chance of hitting with each attack. There are two ways to raise your attack level through actual combat. The first is to select a method of attack that is described as accurate. An example of this would be a scimitar's slash attack. This method gives 4 experience per damage dealt. The other method is to select a method of attack that is described as controlled. This method gives 1.33 experience to attack, strength, and defense per damage dealt. If in a hurry to level up all three, then this works best. If looking to just level up attack, then choose the accurate attacks. You can also get experience from random events for a chosen stat by either a Genie appearing and giving you a lamp or Mr.Mordaut from the Surprise Exam! random event giving you the book of knowledge after completing riddles and/or patterns.
Note: The Book of Knowledge gives you experience equivalent to your Attack level multiplied by 15 which for example is 60 (Attack) *(multiplied by) 15(multiplication number) = 900exp
Attack is needed for wielding weapons.
At level 1 Bronze and iron can be wielded.
At level 5 Steel weapons can be wielded.
At level 10 Black weapons can be wielded.
At level 20 Mithril weapons can be wielded.
At level 30 Adamant weapons can be wielded. Also, members can wield Swamp salamanders with 30 magic/ranging.
At level 40 Rune weapons can be wielded.
At level 50 Members can wield Orange salamanders with 50 magic/ranging.
At level 60 Dragon weapons can be wielded though certain quests have to be completed to wield dragon weapons and membership is required. Some dragon weapons also have a special attack though the special varies and takes up varying amounts of the special bar. Also, members can wield Red salamanders with 60 magic/ranging.
At level 70 Members can wield the Abyssal Whip. This is a favorite weapon, since it is the best single-handed weapon. The Abyssal Whip also doesn't need any quests to be done to wield it, though it is very costly, which is the only place to buy it. It can be gotten from killing abyssal demons though they require 85 slayer. Attack is a very popular skill with a medium average high-score. This is because so many people get their attack to 70 just for the Abyssal Whip. Also, members can wield Black salamanders with 70 magic/ranging.
|- ! Weapon ! Special ! Description |- | width="150pt"|Dragon dagger | width="100pt" align="center"|Puncture | This attack consists of two quick strikes at your opponent, with slightly increased accuracy and damage. |- | Dragon longsword | align="center"|Cleave | This attack is more powerful and so inflicts increased damage to your opponent. |- | Dragon battleaxe | align="center"|Rampage | This attack will lower your Attack, Ranged, Defense, and Magic stats while boosting your Strength stat. |- | Dragon mace | align="center"|Shatter | This attack is much more powerful, but it also has a reduced chance to hit. |- | Dragon spear | align="center"|Shove | This attack deals no damage to your opponent; it simply forces them back away from you and stuns them for a short time. |- | Dragon halberd | align="center"|Sweep | A devastating slash through your opponent. For large monsters, the halberd will automatically sweep back and forth to do extra damage. |- | Dragon scimitar | align="center"|Sever | This attack is more accurate and, if successful, will prevent your opponent from using protection Prayers for 5 seconds. |- | Dragon axe | align="center"|Clobber | This attack dazes your opponent, lowering their Defence and Magic stats. |- | Dragon two-handed sword | align="center"|Powerstab | This weapon produces an area attack, which does damage to nearby enemies. |}
Attack determines the amount of times you cause damage to your opponent.
Other modifiers of attack power include attack stance, worn equipment, weapon type/material, and some prayers. You can see the power of your attack by going to the equipment tab and choosing the Worn/Equipped items button on the bottom left. On the top right side of the window, it will list your attack powers for different values. Note they are different for different attack stances. Try on different items, weapons, amulets, etc. and see how they modify your attack powers.
Once you reach level 99 attack, members can buy a Skill Cape for 99K. Once you have 2 skill capes (which obviously means 99 in 2 skills), your 2 capes, plus all future ones become trimmed skill capes. A skill cape will bring the stat of the cape to 100 when worn. If you lose a skill cape, you pay 99K again to get it back. You can buy the attack skill cape in the Warrior's Guild from Ajjat.
[edit] How do you find your attack level?
- Go to the skills tab noted by a graph while playing the game.
- Go to the picture of a sword in the first column on the first row.
- Your level will be ?/? with the question marks replaced by numbers.
[edit] What is this: ?/?
The first number in the sequence is what your level is at at the moment. It can be drained by certain spells or special attacks. It can be increased by using a prayer or drinking a potion such as an attack potion. The second number is what you have trained the skill to be and is the number that the skill would be without any spells, prayers, or potions.
[edit] What does it do
Attack contributes to your attack level and also determines how often you hit something.
An attack level of 40 along with a greater strength level is one of the best pures, although a downside to this pure is that you will be hit a lot with the low defense.
